STAFF - Meet the Cranedale Team

BSc (Hons) Geography and Environmental Science (Dundee University); MSc. Volcanology and Geological Hazards (Lancaster University); PGCE Secondary Geography with QTS (University of Durham) First Aid at Work

Throughout my childhood I spent a lot of time outdoors, regularly going on camping and hiking holidays with my family which sparked my interest in the natural world.  I soon realised that geography and the environment is an ever-changing and dynamic subject and one that I wanted to study further.

I completed a BSc in Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Dundee and continued with a Master’s degree to develop my fascination in Volcanology and Geological Hazards at Lancaster University.

It was then I decided to fulfil my ambition of becoming a secondary school teacher, hoping to educate and inspire future generations about the natural world. I completed a PGCE in secondary Geography at Durham University followed by a year of classroom teaching in a secondary school. However, as an Assistant Scout Leader in my local Stockton, Thornaby and District Scouts group, I recognised the value that teaching and learning in the outoors has, with young people experiencing and engaging with nature first hand. It was from this that I decided outdoor education was the career for me.

In my spare time I enjoy hiking and running (completed my first ever half marathon in 2016 with more planned in the future!) as well as drawing and painting nearby landscapes.
