Peter, Callum and Rob, the latest tutors to join our team, attended the Annual Geographical Association Conference at Surrey University, Guildford, over the 21st and 22nd of April. Not sure what to expect from the event, they found it was the perfect opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of geography education. Of particular interest were the workshops around the new independent investigations in the A Level specifications – these highlighted some of the problems faced by teachers and helped clarify the position that field study centres would have to take. Aside from this, Peter, Callum and Rob attended a wide range of workshops and lectures, from lectures on inclusive geographies and storm impacts, to workshops on teaching glaciated environments and making maps more accessible to juniors.
Alongside the workshops and lectures, the Cranedale Centre had a stand at the exhibition that ran over the two days. This was a perfect way to speak to teachers about fieldwork courses and opportunities.
All in all, the tutors found it was a really worthwhile event that helped them develop knowledge and skills that will really what we offer as a centre
