BSc (Hons) Environmental Science (Southampton)

My passion to teach in the outdoors and follow my interests in environmental education/natural history came to fruition in January 1977 when I joined the fieldstudies department at Calshot Activities Centre, Hampshire, as an instructor. In 1979 I was appointed to the position of Deputy Head of Fieldstudies at Calshot and fully immersed myself in all the activities and responsibilities of a large multi-activity centre. In 1980 I was fortunate enough to lead a small team of Calshot instructors on an expedition to Tanzania which culminated in a successful ascent of Kilimanjaro.

In 1983 I took up the post of Assistant Director/Tutor at The Cranedale Centre and in 1985 was promoted to the position of Director of the Centre. I am a supporter and long standing member of NAFSO, the Geographical Association and the IOL.

I also enjoy gardening and I am married with 3 grown up children and 4 grandchildren. I retired in September 2021 after 37 happy years as Director, however I continue to support the Cranedale Centre and its staff in anyway I can.
