It was a year 5 rainforest project that first ignited my passion for nature and the world around us; with this came many years of chasing different field work opportunities and learning as much as I could about biology with an emphasis on ecosystems and interactions between humans and wildlife.

Whilst studying for my BSc in Zoology at the University of Leeds, I became fascinated by bats. I spent many summers completing research focussed on these, including being part of the first team of scientists to find a colony of Myotis alcathoe in North Yorkshire and travelling to Malawi to conduct biodiversity monitoring programmes. Many have called me ‘BatWoman’ through the years, which I embrace wholeheartedly!

Whilst completing my MSc in Biodiversity and Conservation, I took a year off to complete some work experience in ecology and nature tourism. It was during this time that I realised how much I enjoyed sharing my love of the natural world with others, especially the younger generations. Having retrained as a teacher, I spent 5 years delivering science in a secondary school. But my heart has always belonged to the outdoor world, so I am thrilled to be here at the Cranedale Centre, sharing that passion with others and engaging them with all the wonders that Yorkshire has to offer!

Away from work, you will likely find me playing or watching sport, enjoying time with my family or planning my next city break adventure.
