“The Cranedale Centre provides an amazing placement year. I have had the opportunity to teach students of all abilities from Year 3 to University level. I have been involved in many different projects and given the freedom and independence to make them my own. The Cranedale team have helped me develop many skills both new and old as well as being hugely supportive with the university module I was required to complete whilst on placement. The year has been a lot of fun! Especially when you get to go rock-pooling than being sat in a lab all day!”

In my time with the centre, I have rockpooled for crabs at Selwicks Bay, witnessed incredible views from the top of Dalby Forest and become fully integrated in a tutor team and incredible centre at the heart of the picturesque Yorkshire Wolds. Excellent facilities. Students enjoyed all food – especially the puddings! Tutors were excellent – kept the students motivated and subject knowledge was fantastic. 

There are few places in life which strive to do everything and more than “what it says on the tin,” but in eight visits to The Cranedale Centre, I have always found this to be so. Our girls have had a simply marvellous field trip and we will be back next year!

I’m so pleased we chose Cranedale to lead on our fieldwork this year. It was an experience that I just don’t think we ourselves could offer in terms of the breadth and depth of study in the short time available. The tutors were excellent – supportive, passionate and friendly.

This was my first ever visit and I have been so impressed – especially the standard of teaching and preparation that we could never do in school. Not sure that I could ever stay youth hostel or FSC again after the accommodation and food.

Choosing to do the investigate skills approach rather than collecting NEA data has proven much more valuable to us as teachers and to the students. This has allowed students to experience an in depth understanding of the NEA process and are now well equipped to begin/undertake their own investigations.

We have recently been to another field studies centre in Yorkshire  – what you offer is substantially better. We really appreciate the money you are spending on equipment, and the time you are spending developing exam board specific fieldwork.

I have been coming to Cranedale for 20 years and every time I visit I go home with the same feeling – an outstanding field studies centre, with passionate staff who make learning interesting and fun.

Fantastic tutors really make this trip as special as it is, and are a huge part of why we return every 2 years! The boys have the most amazing time down to the dedication, warmth and professionalism of all the staff. Thank you!

Once again another fantastic visit to the Cranedale Centre. The children have a wonderful time which translates back into the classroom where we see their confidence grow, they become more independent and grown up.

The centre is efficiently run, spotless and the food is amazing. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Most importantly for us the equipment, field sites and follow up were spot on in terms of being appropriate and allowed our students to contextualise their data.

Thank you for another super stay in Cranedale – my 10th. In a life of change coming back to Cranedale is reassuringly familiar and I continue to recommend it to others as an exemplary field centre.
