Master of Environmental Geography (University of York), First Aid at Work

I have always been drawn to the countryside, exploring the Scottish Highlands, wandering in the Yorkshire Moors or getting lost in the Peak District. Throughout the course of my degree I was able to expand this love of all things outdoors, whether it involved coring in Morecambe Bay, conducting invertebrate population experiments on Teide National Park, Tenerife, or exploring the glacial history of the Yorkshire Dales. With all of this, I have found the natural world both amazing and fascinating to experience first-hand, and love any opportunity to get others just as enthusiastic about the environment around us.

I have an incredibly mixed background in the natural sciences. Core physical Geography has lead the way as I hunted for glacial evidence in the Lake District or mapped flood events in York, but an interest in horticulture and plant ecology formed the basis for my Masters thesis on rare British wildflowers. I have also spent three years part-time as a forester and groundskeeper alongside the team at Burghley Countryside Estate in the East Midlands, getting hands-on with practical land management and grounds maintenance work, whilst also reaffirming my interest in anything green, sun-loving and leafy.

Outside of work, I enjoy walking, swimming and generally getting lost in the Yorkshire countryside. I am a big lover of a good second-hand bookstore and I am trying (albeit with varying degrees of success) to learn to play the guitar.
