COURSES
Fieldstudy courses in geography, biology and environmental studies are offered at the Cranedale Centre for students of all ages.
FIELDSTUDIES
The Cranedale Centre prides itself on the quality of its fieldstudy courses, aiming to inspire and challenge visiting students in their chosen subject area. Strong links are forged between the Centre and the visiting schools/colleges to ensure every course is tailored to their requirements. All inclusive fees are charged per student and staff are allocated one free place for every 12 students.
Field study opportunities are both abundant and varied in this part of the UK with a multitude of impressive sites. Flamborough Head and Filey Brigg on the East Coast are ideal sites for the study of rocky shore ecosystems and coastal geomorphology. Our proximity to the Holderness Coast provides a wealth of opportunities including beach surveys and coastal management studies.
Heather moorlands, rivers and woodland studies abound in the North York Moors National Park allowing students to study fluvial systems, freshwater ecosystems, succession, glaciation and rural rebranding.
This part of Yorkshire is also well positioned for the study of human geography with Hull as a City of Culture showing great examples of regeneration and urban change; the stunning market town of Beverley, beautifully suited to urban microclimate studies; Pickering with its pioneering flood defence schemes and Scarborough being an ideal location to study “changing places.”
The rolling, agricultural, chalklands of the Yorkshire Wolds also offer a diverse range of fieldstudies. Students studying biodiversity; populations; the impact of farming; rural settlement and food security are very well served with some excellent field study sites.
The health and safety and general care of students and staff on Cranedale fieldcourses is taken very seriously and risk management is central to the operation of the Centre. A series of internal policy documents and an external audit ensure a robust system that ensures the safety and care of Cranedale Centre customers and staff.
