Placement Student Testimonials

Here are some thoughts from former work placement students about their experience working at the Cranedale Centre.

Max Cheesman

Sheffield Hallam University 2018/19

“The Cranedale Centre provides an amazing placement year. I have had the opportunity to teach students of all abilities from Year 3 to University level. I have been involved in many different projects and given the freedom and independence to make them my own. The Cranedale team have helped me develop many skills both new and old as well as being hugely supportive with the university module I was required to complete whilst on placement. The year has been a lot of fun! Especially when you get to go rock-pooling than being sat in a lab all day!”

Asiya Campbell

University of York, 2017/2018

“From teaching junior games to designing posters to catching crayfish, my time at the Cranedale Centre made for an exciting and versatile placement year! Sharing the wonders of the natural environment with a variety of students each week, I learnt just as much as I taught (if not more!) about geography, biology and the great outdoors! All alongside a welcoming team of staff in a truly stunning part of the country! Throughout the year I developed both transferable and field specific skills, and most importantly I grew in self-confidence. If you are looking for a well-rounded and enjoyable work experience I would definitely recommend this opportunity”

Tom Kilkenny

University of York, 2016/2017.

“My time at the Cranedale Field Studies Centre was one of the most rewarding years of my university career, providing me with a huge suite of knowledge, experience and insight. It combined both the field of education and the outdoors to give me an invaluable opportunity to observe and actively teach students from a variety of ages in so many beautiful natural settings, ranging from the Yorkshire Moors to the Holderness coastline and beyond! In my time with the centre, I have rockpooled for crabs at Selwicks Bay, witnessed incredible views from the top of Dalby Forest and become fully integrated in a tutor team and incredible centre at the heart of the picturesque Yorkshire Wolds. This is an opportunity not to be missed!”

Charlotte Howard

Bangor University, 2012/2013.

“I was lucky enough to secure a placement at the Cranedale Centre for the academic year of 2012/13, as part of my undergraduate degree at Bangor University. The Centre is a very welcoming workplace and the tutors supported me in developing skills in leadership, communication and organisation. I learned the importance of professionalism, through the provision of an outstanding standard of teaching and exceptional customer service for which the Cranedale Centre is renowned. The experience that I gained during my placement has been invaluable for the progression of my career and I would highly recommend the Education Assistant placement to any dedicated student!”
